Its one of the first things a newly engaged couple reach for, or if they don't, their friends do it for them!
The wedding magazine.
Years ago this would have been all you had to go by to find the dress you've been dreaming of since you were a little girl, and to find a colour scheme or theme to suit. Now there's a huge range of ways to look up ideas for your special day, Pinterest being one of the most popular. You can literally find anything on the internet, its packed with ideas for rustic weddings, city weddings, even festival weddings along DIY ideas that will keep you swearing late into the evening of the night before your wedding day!
So why now would you reach for the magazine, which will set you back about £4.99 a pop? Well I put this question to the test and reached over my usual magazine (Heat, don't judge me!) and bought Bride magazine to look through for hire ideas for Little Wishes Hire. At first I idly flicked through the pages thinking that if I were looking for a dress this magazine is awesome, but not so much for wedding hire décor. However I didn't give up, while my daughter was in bed and husband out at work, I had another look and this is why I realised its so important to still buy wedding magazines - the little hidden gems.
You can look online for a lot of suggestions but you have to have a small idea in your head of what you are looking for to start with. Magazines put images in front of you that you may never think of looking at. Here at Little Wishes Hire we specialise in the more rustic, country wedding and a lot of what we search for is of this theme. However looking through Bride magazine I found the most gorgeous ideas for a chic manor house weddings, with their rich colours and vibrant flower arrangements. This lead me onto a number of other ideas which could be incorporated into Little Wishes Hire and our winter range.
One of my favourite articles was about the gold colour scheme, usually a no no for the majority of country weddings! Even my husband Simon, who runs Wings Events Limited, a marquee company, have some gold chivari chairs that they have been wondering whether to ditch now the white wash and ice chairs are in fashion! I showed him the photos of the chairs in Bride magazine which are gold with a contemporary gold patterned seat pad acknowledging how warm and romantic they looked with the rest of the décor. Gold chairs could be making a come back, so hold on, don't be too hasty with those chairs yet!
I wouldn't have known a lot of this without looking through the magazine, because its not something I would be typing into google search. It wasn't only that but the other ideas from different parts of the country too. Wedding magazines have made me open my eyes to all the possibilities! Also magazines are often looking ahead so when your browser is full of summer and you are planning a wedding for the winter, reach for the magazine, its bound to be looking into future trends.
